How to Share Your Lyrics on Digital Platforms like Apple Music + What is Synced Lyrics?

If you’re releasing music to DSPs (Digital Service Providers), it’s important to include your lyrics when submitting your songs. This makes it easier for your listeners to find accurate and official lyrics for your songs. Wouldn’t you rather you provide the lyrics they find online than some random website that has inaccurate lyrics?

When you submit your lyrics along with your song through your distributor (like DistroKid), you make them available for musicxmatch and Apple Music.

If you’re using Distrokid, it’s pretty easy:

  1. Sign into DistroKid

  2. Click "Settings" (gear icon)

  3. Click "Lyrics"

If you use a different distributor, search for instructions in their Support section.

You’ll want to read through their guidelines, as well as the guidelines on musicxmatch and Apple Music before submitting them to avoid your lyrics getting rejected.

You can find musicxmatch’s guidelines here and Apple Music guidelines here.

We’re also excited about the new “synced” lyrics feature that DistroKid recently announced. It’s that thing on Instagram and Apple Music where lyrics scroll with the music. Now DistroKid lets any artist automatically create & upload synced lyrics.
