Podcast Ep 6: The Power Of Data (Where You Are Is Not Where You’re Headed)

Many artists nowadays are having to wear many hats. (Songwriter, Music Producer, Social Media Manager, Video Director, etc.) Budgets can be tight and that can leave us taking on roles we may not feel fully prepared for. But there is hope! We can learn! You don’t have to be a computer genius to understand how “numbers” affect your music, your fans and ultimately your creative future!

We may not know exactly where we want to end up in our artistic journey, but most of us would agree we’re not there yet.

If anything, where we are, is at a giant wall preventing us from properly defining a destination and then scouting out a route.

Our imaginations are overflowing with potential, but our actual lives/careers aren’t lining up.

How do we get from here to there?

Since the breakthroughs we’re looking for aren’t where we are, it’s very tempting for us to believe that they’re not anywhere.

But, the resolution is found in realizing that we haven’t reached our “there” yet.

It’s natural to go through seasons of imagining “greener pastures” on the “other side” of the fence.

The problem is that we often see a greener field, and then immediately notice another fence. Another barrier in the way of something even greener, just leaving us even more frustrated.

The good news is not that we can find a greener field, but knowing there’s never an end to the possibilities of fences to cross.

Now, where you are, may not seem very green (yet). That’s okay! We just have to find a fence to cross. (It’s there.)

We can get discouraged thinking we’ve arrived at the destination we’ve been looking for, and it’s still not clicking.

The fans aren’t gathering, the videos we make feel awkward, and our throats feel scratchy.

That doesn’t mean there’s not a future. It just means the future's not here.

There are bright days ahead!

Days that don’t include writer’s block or second-guessing yourself.

Days of new fences to cross.

Crossing fences isn’t always about where you are, not being enough. Sometimes it’s just about where you’re going being that much greater.

Speaking of numbers…

We know recording and releasing new music can feel as daunting financially as it does creatively! With so many different costs accumulating at various stages for production, distribution, and marketing, it’s easy for something you thought would be a cost effective DIY to become an unwelcome investment. In an effort to help you avoid this unpleasant surprise, we built an awesome resource called the New Release Budget Calculator that’s available right now for all our Artist Mentorship Members!

You can read more about everything The Artist Mentorship has to offer — from resources and custom content to industry discounts — on The Artist Mentorship’s homepage. We’d love to have you join us!

We think we know the truth of how well we’re doing as artists and how our music is connecting.

However, sometimes we can blissfully ignore the truth that is keeping us from real breakthroughs in our craft!
